You’re not the winner’ - oh yes you are!

Pupils from a North Yorkshire college have been named winner and runner up in the 2011 ‘In the can’ road safety film competition - scooping £1,250 in prize money for the college.
‘In the can’ is a competition for young people aged under 21 years, in which entrants are challenged to make a road safety film suitable for use as a viral.
This year’s winning film was created by Daniel Ruston and Kelly Miles, from Norton College in North Yorkshire. This is the second consecutive year that Norton College has won the competition and scooped the £1,000 top prize.
The judges decided that ‘You’re not the winner’ best matched the competition criteria of ‘relevant, clear, creative and suitable for use as a viral’. The film depicts a young man driving recklessly around a car park, in a bid to impress an onlooking young woman. But as the female walks away her expression and the tag line make it clear that she is far from impressed.
The runner-up was ‘Distractions’ created by Jamie Munro, Sam Rimmer and Emma Harper also from Norton College. They will receive £250 for the college.
Simon Rawlings, campaign organiser, said: “Although there were fewer entries than last year, once again the films certainly weren’t lacking in quality.
“The judging panel had a difficult job in picking the winners, but ‘You’re not the winner’ and ‘Distractions’ stood out because they are creative and fit the criteria for a short viral film.
“Congratulations to Daniel and Kelly for their winning entry, and to Jamie, Sam and Emma who took the runner-up prize. Norton College must be commended for embracing the competition with such enthusiasm – and for winning two years in a row.”
